Changes for Manchester City?
It's no secret that Manchester City has a surplus of quality players. The question remains, where will they be playing? Players such as Shaun Wright-Phillips, Craig Bellamy, and Adam Johnson have all been linked to other teams. The latest rumors I'm hearing are below:
Craig Bellamy: Celtic is trying to score the striker on loan
Carlos Tevez: The on again, off again want-away is still linked to Inter. However, the price has seemingly increased to £50 million
Adam Johnson: Sunderland has their eyes on AJ as well as the aforementioned Bellamy
Shaun Wright-Phillips: Blues coach Mancini thinks SWP deserves to start, but doesn't have a spot for him. SWP has had a great pre-season and surely has earned a start... Hasn't he?
Ryan McGivern: The 21 year old back has been linked to Crystal Palace

Elsewhere in the EPL
Although Diego Forlan thought new City signing Sergio Aguerio should have signed with Chelsea, they may get another chance at a world class player. Brazilian international Kaka is no longer in Real Madrid's coach Jose Mourinho's plans for the famous La Liga club. Will he end up in Chelsea? Their fans certainly hope so after missing out on Javier Pastore, who ended up with French club PSG.

Beckham back to England?
Rumors are floating around that David Beckham is interested in leaving the L.A. Galaxy and heading to British side Leicester F.C. Leicester is currently in the Football League Championship. I don't see Beckham leaving L.A. for a team in the second tier of England football. I know he wants to play for England again, but don't think he'll drop to this level

Red Bull New York takes down the Gunners?

Arsenal started the Emirates Cup as their home tournament in 2007. For only the second time in the five year history of the tournament, Aresenal is not holding the cup. Arsenal won the initial cup in 2007. Hamburg S.V. took the Cup in '08 with Arsenal taking it each of the next three years. This year however, the first MLS team to play in the tournament emerge as the victors.

Red Bull New York defeated Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in the first match of the tournament. Arsenal faced off against Boca Juniors, but didn't fair as well. Arsenal lost a 2-0 lead over Boca Juniors, who fought back to end the match tied 2-2. Today, Red Bull New York took on Arsenal at Emirates Stadium. The game was a homecoming of sorts for Thierry Henry, who spent 8 seasons with the Gunners.

Towards the end of a rather even first half, Arsenal found themselves up 1-0 on a header by Robin Van Persie. Van Persie can easily lead the EPL in goals this year, if he can stay healthy. After the half, Arsenal had a few more chances to build on their lead, but were unable to do so. As the match moved along, it seemed as though both sides were content with the 1-0 finish. However, after Van Persie, Gervinho, and others were subbed out, RBNY seemed to spring some life. With around 6 minutes remaining, Henry fed Roy Miller who lobbed a shot in. Gunner sub Kyle Bartley however knocked the ball in, giving Red Bull New York the draw.

With the draw came the Emirates Cup. Again Arsenal couldn't hold a lead and their two total points landed them third overall in the tourney. The final results were:

1-Red Bull New York
2-Paris Saint-Germain
3-Arsenal
4-Boca Juniors

This tournament may do some good things for the MLS. The MLS is often viewed as not only a second tier league here in the States, but also around the world. Although this was merely a "pre-season tournament" Red Bull New York came home with a cup in a Tournament with 3 well known European teams. Might the MLS finally get just a bit of respect? We shall see...

The Beginning

Welcome to the beginning of my new blog, Football Thoughts from an American Fan. It's pretty simple... I am a 26 year old football (soccer) fan, from St. Louis Missouri. I really enjoy watching the EPL, MLS, and other leagues.

I had played football in the past and watched it ever so often. In the past few years, especially after the 2010 Men's World Cup, I have fallen in love with the beautiful game. I have tried to catch every game I can on television, since I don't have a local team higher than the PDL. (Go Lions!) I have tried, and continue to try to learn all the players, the different teams and leagues and even the various kits.

I have become a huge fan of Manchester City in the EPL, but also enjoy watching others play, especially Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United. Their matches are so entertaining. On occasion I will catch a La Liga, Serie A, UEFA match, etc... I have fallen in love with the game and love to watch, talk, and write about it. The will be the main purpose of this little corner of the internet. Feel free to comment on anything and let me know who you support. In the meantime, Go Blues!
